Wow. I 'made' a blog page! Who knew! HEY THERE!! {waving!}
So..................I've decided to create this blog for 2 reasons. To keep track of my journey to a healthier me, and to also share some of my other journeys...my travels to Mexico, Cuba, and beyond!
A couple of days ago I happened on a site for people who've had, or are considering lap band surgery. There's a forum included and I LOVE forums! I'm in!
All my 'close' friends know that I had Lap Band surgery on April 20, 2010, but all my other 'friends' do not. This was a completely personal decision, and one I haven't taken lightly, nor looked back on! Was it the RIGHT DECISION? Absolutely! I've struggled with weight issues for most of my life. Some struggles have been harder than others. Some weren't so bad, others have been horrible. It's felt like the older I get, the harder it is, and the more weight I gain - then have to 'try' to lose. Not fun by any means. Wrong choices lead to unhappy times for Jan. When I'm heavy, I'm angry. Mostly at myself, but I know it spills over to everyone else, and I become such a bitch more days than not. It actually took my best friend to point it out to me in 2008 before I even really realized that I was doing it. THANKS TERRY - that's what friends are for, and if you can't trust your friends.............
So. I started the Pre Op diet on March 30th. By the time I had the surgery on Apr 20th, I had lost 24lbs, AND spent the week before the surgery, laying on the beaches of my beloved Akumal! Now it's July 24th, and I'm down at least 48lbs in total - maybe it's even 50 by now, but I don't weigh myself on my own scale, I save that for the nurses to do when I see them to check in. Next visit; Aug 5th, so cross your fingers!
This is a much slower process than a liquid diet (which I have done more than once before - but I'll save that for another blog), but I'm okay with it. I don't feel deprived of food in any way, and that's a good thing. It is however - a completely new learning experience! At 52 yrs of age, I'm going to have to relearn some habits....which means acquiring GOOD new ones. Smaller bites, MUCH SMALLER PORTIONS, and chew chew chew, and do it slowly.
Mas manana......
